The Pixel Trade

Ever wanted to travel the world? Unfortunately not everyone can afford to go gallivanting off on the holiday of a life time but Australian photographer, Shantanu Starick, has come up with an ingenious way to do just that without having to spend a single penny! ‘The Pixel Trade,’ is quite possibly one of the most brilliant ideas for a photo project I’ve ever come across. Starting with a couple of business owners in Australia, he offers his time as a […]

The Rise and Fall of a White Collar Hooligan

Last year I got a call from my good friend and talented actor, Amed Hashimi asking if I’d be interested in working on a film with him and up and coming director, Paul Tanter. I was. So I jumped on a train and headed down to Wimbledon Studios where we were due to film the riot scenes of the film which at that point in time had the title of, ‘Money For Nothing.’ It was a great day for stills […]

Studio Photography: Dry Paint

As mentioned in my previous blog, I recently returned to the realm of studio photography, to work with the lovely, Lucie Webster, on a somewhat messy photo shoot involving a lot of dry paint. Unfortunately, covering the white studio floor with bin liners and tarp didn’t spare me from a 5 hour clean-up operation trying to restore the now pink studio, back to its original shiny state! Note to self: next time, use sand. Timing is everything with this kind […]

Aston Hall Birmingham Fashion Shoot

Several months ago, Aston Hall in Birmingham, invited myself and fellow tog, Adam Hale, into their beautiful building to conduct a fashion shoot. As a collaboration between local make-up artists, stylists, models and of course photographers, we spent the entire day shooting across various rooms of the Grade I listed Jacobean mansion, including the huge long gallery as pictured with model, Anna ‘Paranoya’ Lenart, below. Differing from my normal approach to shoots that often involves ridiculous amounts of meticulous planning, […]

Doubletake Studios Closure

Doubletake Studios, one of the UK’s largest commercial fashion and portraiture photography studios, yesterday closed its doors after 15 years in operation with studios in Birmingham, Manchester, London and Southampton all being shut down. As a result the local photography markets have just got a lot less competitive. With some of Double-Take’s studios seeing up to 90 clients a day and being open seven days a week, a lot of freelance photographers are now able to tap into the portraiture […]
