Casting Calls: Reader for Poetry Videos

The Great Poetry and Prose Projecr

The goal? To make damn fine recordings of the out of copyright classics, and put them on YouTube. Why? Because I love SPOKEN poetry and prose, but find reading it unsatisfactory. Trouble is, so much that is out there is very badly delivered. I want to change that. YOU can choose your poet(s) / prose. This is a Personal Project, not a commercial venture. Which is why the pay is low, but at least it’s actually paid!

Shoot Date: 5th April 2014 – 1st March 2015
Pay: £7 p/hr + expenses (up to £30)
Apply: https://shootingpeople.org/production/work/cast/role/18688

Role: Reader

I want a variety of people, all ages etc, to read poems and extracts from the classics for a video “Poetry Please” or “With Great Pleasure”.

VOICE matters more than looks – in fact sometimes we’ll just use the audio. So, for example, if you are 60 but sound 15, you can be Juliet, and if you are 30 but can sound old, The Hag of Breare is yours.

This is a purely personal project, so budgets are limited. I plan to shoot one or two days a month.

Shoots will mainly be in Gloucester, and will be a full day (with breaks). I will consider travelling to you, depending on your location, as a change of scene always looks good. You would need to have a decent sized living room or nice (quiet) garden.

Auditions – will be by phone. Read me a poem, and with your voice, make me feel it. (God how I HATE the “poetry voice” or flat readings that are all over YouTube). This is bad www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgVW13Dbluk…, this is better (but still not really good)www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXfO5FQ92zA… – the Goblins are hawkers, we should hear them hawking.

Pay – see above, plus you get a credit (on video and in Google friendly site text) and can have a copy for your showreel purposes.

Expenses – these are limited. I will normally run to covering a rail fare up to around £30, so if you live a long way from Gloucester take this into account before applying.
