ROXANNE is a short drama exploring the bond that develops between a trans-gendered sex worker in London and an abandoned 12 year old girl.

Roxanne is a funded short film shooting in London 25-29 July 2014. The film is also currently crowd funding an extra £10K to allow the production to shoot on 35mm film.

A London based Second Assistant Director is required and will be paid £70 per day, inclusive of travel, for the five days of production. Pre production is not paid. It goes without saying food and refreshments will be provided on set.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the production of daily call sheets, movements orders and any other necessary documents that support the production and need to be distributed among crew and cast. These documents will need to be completed one week prior to production. These documents may be subject to change during the production. During the pre production the successful candidate will be required to participate in location recces and potentially complete risk assessments in my absence.

During production you will be my right hand and support the back end of the set (ensure cast and crew arrive on time, ensure cast are dressed and ready for stand by). The usual drill. You will also distribute designated tasks to runners and manage them effectively. Courtesy and good manners are a mandatory efficacy of this role.

It is essential you have a good working knowledge of Celtx production management software as this is the tool being used to breakdown and manage the schedule.

Access to Skype is essential for interview. I am seeking a bright, committed, hard working person and these qualities will be more influential than an extensive CV. Demonstrate you understand the role, have some experience of it, are able to perform to a high standard and have a genuine interest in working in production and you stand a good chance of being selected. DOG is a brutal love story in the vein of Oldboy and Leon featuring heavy fight sequences and difficult subject matter. Written and Directed by Robin Schmidt (Afterdeath www.imdb.com/title/tt2710826/) it stars Simon Wan and Sophia Del Pizzo. The project is mostly funded by MTA Records as a double music video project for their artist Dream McLean. So footage from the film will be repurposed into music videos for two tracks.

I’m currently entering the difficult final stages of post on my mammoth martial arts short, DOG and am looking for a Sound Designer to help me finish it off. The film has been fairly extensively temped and the fight sounds have for the most part all been done but it really needs a talented ear to bring it all together as the sound plays a fairly important part.

I’m looking for someone who can start pretty soon as I’m starting to get hassled for final copies by festivals and we’re having to scrabble to get everything together in time.

Crew Calls: Editor and VFX Artist

The Intruder

On a barren moorland a young man encounters a strange floating black cube. The Intruder is a surrealist film about a man facing up to those things he fears the most. Mixing live action and CGI, it has been shot in Ireland on a RED Scarlet and post production is taking place in London.

Visual Effects:

Looking to find a VFX collaborator for some major scenes in the film. We will be compositing an abstract object into plates and are looking for people experienced with compositing, texturing and rendering. Models will be built and animated in C4D. Needs to look reasonably realistic despite being abstract in nature, so for example if you think using VRAY / Maxwell etc will lend itself well to this we can incorporate rate that. Will be working with a motion designer / animator.

Sound Designer:

There are two parts to this role:

First of all an important element of the story is an abstract cube object which advances on the main character, taking on characteristics of his greatest fears.. Visually this is being built as a VFX composited object but equally important in the script is how this object sounds. Throughout the film it transforms from its initial form, which is vague and distant, into a shifting, morphing object which emits noises based on the main character’s fear, the loss of his brother who is in hospital.

For this we need to create an abstract soundscape from hospital noises, beeping, dripping, intercom sounds, which initially is hugely distorted but becomes clear as the story progresses.

Secondly, due to the ridiculous wind on our shoot location some of our location sound is unusable, we’d like to build up some foley elements to complement the music currently being composed

We are looking for a London house as a location for a beautiful character-based science fiction short film. The location will be used for the scenes that take place on Earth and should be a lovely heavenly house (mostly white interiors, lots of sunlight, and a slightly modern style) that contrasts strongly with the gloomy and artificial life on space of the other scenes (which will be shot on set). The writer/director of the film is a very talented London-based filmmmaker whose previous short film and promos for SKY and MTV have received national and international awards.

We would only need to film in the kitchen, the bathroom and the stairs, during aproximately 6 hours on the 5th of May and we would be a maximum of 10 people including the actors and the crew. The project is insured, and we are all professionals of the film industry who have dedicated a lot of time and resources to make this project come true. Our budget is of 150-200 pounds for that partial day.

Additionally we would love to give you a credit in the film as well, which will be submitted to national and international film festivals, as well as invite you to the screening.

We are called Catsnake Film and we’re an online video agency based in Ealing Studios. We make creative online video, using the principles of storytelling, narrative and psychology to make content people want to watch. Some of our past films have been ‘A Love Story In Milk’ and our writer/producer Stephen Follows wrote the Virgin Media Shorts winning film ‘Sign Language’.

There will be some on-set days but most are spent in the production office. Main duties include research, pre-production, general admin and supporting the team. Useful skills would include a driving licence, experience in a production office and on set. None of these are vital as we are looking to train up the correct person. Essential skills would be a sense of humour, a love of storytelling and being a self-motivated hard worker.

The job will initially be for a four week probationary period, with the aim for it to become full time. Paid at the minimum wage and it’s based in our office in Ealing Studios so you need to be living within commuting distance.

You will be the director of a Mexican soap opera. It’s a very sad scene, where the ‘Hero’ is on the verge of death, and he’s saying farewell to his lover.
But the 2 actors just won’t stop smiling and laughing, much to your annoyance. Take after take, you try to get them to act sad, but it’s no good…

Dawn is confident woman in a job dominated by men, and an important character in our feature film. The love interest of our main character, Jack.
I’m looking for someone energetic, flexible and fun to play her part. The bulk of the filming happens this summer with additional filming days late in the year/early next year, so flexilbity is key. Physcially I’m looking ideally for long hair, pretty/angelic looks, but more importantly I’m looking for someone who’s easy going, fun to work with and can bring their own personality to the role. Crew Training Opportunities with BBC Academy

The BBC Academy is set to offer six new Creative Skillset-funded initiatives for TV freelancers in the UK creative industries.
Aimed at addressing key industry skills shortages, all of the initiatives will run over the next six months and funding is available for up to 90% of the course costs.
The courses are:

High End Craft Training
A series of five day studio courses for freelance craft practitioners in studio sound, studio lighting, studio camera craft and vision mixing.

Comedy Studio Craft Skills
A comprehensive training initiative that includes an intensive three day studio course for studio craft freelancers wanting to specialise in studio comedy productions.

The course will take place in Salford on the 28 to 31 March and deliver high end craft skills in directing, lighting and sound. The BBC Academy is partnering with Dock 10 in Media City to deliver this course. Dock 10 is also co-funding this initiative.

The New Story
A series of different courses in storytelling delivered at various locations across the UK. The courses will increase storytelling confidence and abilities, offer a set of golden rules relevant to any genre, and show how to put storytelling at the heart of the production.

Courses on offer include Introduction to Storytelling, Story Structuring for Factual Short Form, Story Structuring for Factual Long form, and Writing for TV. The Academy is partnering withDV Talent and the Indie Training Fund to help deliver these courses.

Creative Pop-Ups
A one day course for freelancers working in the creative industries or in creative roles across the UK.

The course gives an understanding of how creativity works, different creative styles and ways to maximise creativity and creative collaboration. There will also be an insight into creative leadership methods to influence, persuade and inspire others to believe in artistic ideas. This course will take place across the UK.

Factual Showrunner Live Events
This is a unique and intensive four day course targeted at first time potential freelance series producers or day producers of live factual. It will also be suitable for those who come from observational documentary series or fixed format backgrounds and who have not worked on live output. The course will take place in London and Wood Norton.

Two-Week Shadowing Development Programme
This will offer freelancers the chance to work in sought-after genres and departments across the industry. The Academy will be working in partnership with the Royal Television Societyto place 30 freelancers with production teams across the UK. Individuals will receive a fixed fee of £500 per week during their placement.

The courses are open to TV freelancers who are either:

• Employed in the creative industry on a fixed term contract of less than 364 days;
• In employment in the creative industry but able to prove that they have been given a date fortermination of employment and will become a freelancer;
• Unemployed but have previous professional experience working in the industry within the past two years.

Crew Call: Camera Operators for Glastonbury

I can not say too much about this project just yet but it is a high profile and artistic film involving weather, politics and music… the film already has exhibition in place for 2015 in a major London venue and at the Prague Quadrennial.

I am looking for a few creative camera people for a project filming between June 25-30th. A few requirements other than being creative, experienced and able to think on your feet and laterally… You also must have been to the Glastonbury Music Festival before, not be opposed to camping in a tent for a few days nor be put off by a bit of mud and randomness. I am looking for creative flair, people who enjoy the collaborative process and would be willing to engage with some pre-production brainstorming in the run up to filming.
